4.3.13. Check of a condition of a bent shaft

Measurement of size of an axial side play

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Measurement of size of an axial side play of a bent shaft is performed before extraction of the last of the block of cylinders, right after its release (see Removal of a bent shaft).

2. Check of an axial side play can be made by means of the standard dial measuring instrument of plunger type. Push a shaft against the stop in the engine, then nullify the measuring instrument which plunger has to be pressed to an end face of a forward pin of a shaft. Now shift a shaft against the stop to the opposite side and consider instrument reading. Compare result of measurement to requirements of Specifications for the purpose of definition of need of replacement of persistent washers.

3. In the absence of near at hand dial measuring instrument the size of an axial side play can be determined by means of the probe of lezviyny type. Shift a bent shaft at all length of its course towards a flywheel / a driving disk, then the probe measure gap size between a cheek of the second crank and a face surface of a persistent washer.

Check of a state

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Wash out a bent shaft in kerosene or other suitable solvent, then dry it, it is preferable with use of compressed air. Make sure of absoluteness of purity of oil openings, check their passability. In case of need use a rod brush or the special device for a clearing of pipes.

When using compressed air do not forget to put on goggles!

2. Check radical and conrod necks of a shaft for existence of cracks, zadir, deep scratches, cavities and signs of uneven wear.
3. A sign of wear of necks of conrod bearings is the distinct metal knock published during the operation of the engine and especially noticeable on small turns. Besides, wear of conrod bearings usually is followed by oil pressure decrease.
4. The gnash and strong vibrations of the engine during its work amplifying in process of increase in turns usually testifies to wear of radical bearings. Oil pressure also falls a little.
5. To the touch estimate smoothness of working surfaces of necks of a shaft. Existence of a roughness speaks about wear of bearings and indicates the need of performance of a pro-point of a shaft or its replacement.
6. Check edges of oil openings of a shaft for existence of agnails (usually openings slightly of a razzinkovana, and therefore, problem of this sort arises usually only at inaccurate performance of a pro-point of necks). Remove defects, having processed edges of openings a file with small tooth or a scraper, then once again carefully wash out maslotok.

7. By means of a micrometer measure diameters of all radical and conrod necks of a shaft. Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications. Measurement of diameter of necks in several points will allow to reveal signs of unevenness of wear. The difference in the diameters measured in the plane of one section, but under 90 ° to each other determines the size of ovality of a neck. The difference between the values removed in various sections of a neck characterizes conicity of the last. In case of detection of the wear of necks going beyond admissible limits the shaft, besides, is subject to a pro-point or replacement (consult with specialists of car service).

8. Check a condition of the surfaces of both pins of a bent shaft contacting to epiploons. Existence of defects can lead to failure of new epiploons. There are ways of restoration of sealing surfaces of pins, - consult at car repair shop. In case of impossibility of carrying out recovery repair the shaft is subject to replacement.
9. At the time of drawing up the present manual information on release of inserts of bearings of the repair sizes by the Citroyon company for each of types was absent. On models for which such inserts are issued the shaft can be in case of need pierced, and inserts of bearings are replaced new, the corresponding repair size (see Installation of a bent shaft and check of working gaps of radical bearings). If an opportunity in acquisition of repair inserts is absent, the shaft in case of wear of his necks below an admissible limit is subject to replacement.
