4.1.11. Removal and installation of a head of cylinders
Removal
L models 1.6 and 1.8
|
1. Uncover a head of cylinders (see Removal and installation of a cover of a head of cylinders). 2. Remove the air sleeve connecting the air cleaner to the throttle case (see the Power supply system - petrol models). 3. The description of the procedure of removal of a head of cylinders assembled with the inlet pipeline and a final collector is given below that does assembly by more bulky in view of what it will be reasonable to remove previously mentioned components (see the Head of the Power supply system and release). 4. Working according to the instructions provided in the Head of the Power supply system and release, disconnect a reception pipe of system of production of the fulfilled gases from a final collector. At the corresponding complete set disconnect/release a l-probe electrical wiring on purpose not to allow its tension under the weight of the sunk section of system of release. 5. Being still verified with the instructions stated in the Head of the Power supply system and release, perform the following procedures: a) Dump pressure in a power supply system and disconnect hoses of giving and return of fuel. Zakuporte the open ends of hoses/unions for the purpose of minimization of losses of fuel and in order to avoid hit in system of dirt; b) Disconnect a gas cable; c) Disconnect all other procedures impeding the implementation vacuum and ventilating hoses. Release hoses from clamps on a final collector; d) Disconnect an electrical wiring from the throttle case; e) Disunite two electric sockets on each of injectors of injection and release an electrical wiring from clamps on a collector. 6. Release collars and disconnect cooling system hoses from a thermostat casing at the left on a head of cylinders. 7. Release a fixing clamp(s) and disunite the electric socket(s) on the sensor(s) and the sensor switch(es) screwed in a thermostat casing depending on a complete set. 8. Turn out a bolt of fastening of the directing tube of the probe of measurement of level of motive oil at the left on a head of cylinders. Take a tube from the block of cylinders. 9. Disconnect an electrical wiring from ignition coil VV. If the head deals with the purpose of carrying out capital repairs, remove the coil (see System of ignition - petrol models). At this VV wires have to be disconnected from spark plugs, but not from the coil and are removed assembled from the last. If on wires there is no factory marking, mark them by means of an adhesive tape, having assigned everyone number of the corresponding cylinder. At assembly of VV wires have to be connected strictly in a former order in order to avoid violation of an order of ignition. 10. Remove an arm of a support of the power unit on the right side of a head of cylinders. Release a natyazhitel and take off a gas-distributing belt from a camshaft cogwheel (see Removal, check of a state and installation of a natyazhitel and cogwheels of a gas-distributing belt). |
11. Working as it should be, the return shown on an illustration, in stages (on a half-turn for approach) weaken ten bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders so that the possibility of their reversing manually appeared. Turn out bolts and remove them together with the washers. Try to remember adjusting position of the remote plug which equipped the left forward bolt. |
|
12. After a reversing of all fixture it is necessary to separate a head from laying and the block of cylinders/case of the engine, having tried not to displace sleeves of cylinders at the same time. In spite of the fact that in these engines of a sleeve are put especially densely, it is necessary to consider nevertheless probability of risk of hit of cooling liquid in the case pallet at inaccurate actions during dismantle of a head. If it is not possible to avoid the shift of sleeves, there can be a violation of tightness of landing of the lower sealants that will lead to development of leaks already in the near future after assembly of the unit. |
13. For a partition of components prepare two L-shaped cores. Fill cores in bolted openings of a head and begin to shake accurately the last on the axial line of the car forward. Do not try to develop a head on the block at all - it is put on the directing pins, and also on the acting ends of sleeves of cylinders. |
|
14. When the layer of connecting sealant is destroyed, the head should be lifted up and to remove carefully from the block (it will be reasonable to use the help of the assistant, especially if the head is removed assembled with the inlet pipeline and a final collector). Remove sealing laying of a head from the block. Also take and put freely put directing pins to the reliable place. Do not throw out old laying, - it can be used as a template (see below "Preparation for installation", subitem 4 — 5). 15. Try not to allow provorachivaniye of a bent shaft at the removed head as it can lead to pushing out of sleeves from nests of cylinders. All operations the provorachivaniye demanding it have to be made only after reliable fixing of sleeves in the block. In the absence of near at hand special company clips of a sleeve can be recorded by means of couple of bolts of suitable length and two flat washers of big diameter. 16. If the head is subject to further dismantling for the purpose of performing procedures of capital repairs, take from it the camshaft (see Removal, check of a state and installation of the camshaft and pushers of valves), then address materials of the section Removal and capital repairs of the engine. |

1. Perform the procedures described in the subsection "L Models 1.6 and 1.8", subitem 1 — 10. Pay attention that in this case the directing tube of the measuring probe is established on a wall of the inlet pipeline. |
2. Working as it should be, the return shown on an illustration, in stages (on a half-turn for approach) weaken ten bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders so that the possibility of their reversing manually appeared. |
|
3. Turn out bolts and remove them together with the washers. Fixture (both bolts and washers) is not subject to reuse and has to be replaced. 4. After extraction of fixture remove a head from the block of cylinders (use the help of the assistant). 5. Remove sealing laying from the interfaced surface of the block, - pay attention to two directing pins. If pins are put in the block freely, take them and remove to the reliable place. 6. If the head is subject to further dismantling for the purpose of performing procedures of capital repairs, take from it the camshaft (see Removal, check of a state and installation of the camshaft and pushers of valves), then address materials of the section Removal and capital repairs of the engine. |

Preparation for installation
|
1. The interfaced surfaces of a head and the block of cylinders have to be absolutely pure. By means of a plastic or wooden scraper remove from them all traces of material of old laying and coal deposits. Smooth out also the bottoms of pistons. On l models 1.6 and 1.8 before turning a bent shaft, take care of reliable fixing of sleeves of cylinders (see the subsection "L Models 1.6 and 1.8", item 15). Remember that soft aluminum alloy at careless handling can be easily damaged. On all models take precautionary measures against hit of coal dust in maslotok and water galleries of the engine. Stick all open openings (including bolted) with an adhesive tape. In order to avoid hit of coal particles in free space between pistons and mirrors of cylinders fill gaps dense lubricant which before assembly of the unit has to be removed by means of a soft brush (then components should be wiped with pure rags). 2. Check the interfaced surfaces of a head and the block of cylinders for existence of deep scratches, zadir and other mechanical damages. Insignificant defects can be removed by means of a file with small tooth. In more serious cases replacement of the damaged component becomes the only alternative. Estimate not planeness degree the interfaced surfaces of a head of cylinders by means of the steel ruler put on an edge and the probe of lezviyny type (see Removal and capital repairs of the engine). 3. On models 1.6 and 1.8 of l check the size of a vystupaniye of sleeves of cylinders (see Cleaning and check of a condition of the block of cylinders/case of the engine). 4. Track that new laying of a head of cylinders on the thickness conformed to standard requirements (see Specifications). On some models laying only of one thickness is issued that excludes probability of a mistake. On others two types of laying can be used: standard thickness (are established at manufacturer) and thicker (+ 0.2 mm) the "repair", applied later head pro-points. After a pro-point on the interfaced head surface, near the third final port the tag in the form of R letter is put. The similar tag has to be present also at the subject installation in this case to repair laying (near an opening of the third cylinder). Identification of laying can be made also on openings from its left edge (see further). 5. At the correct laying of laying on the block of cylinders in the uvula located owe from its left edge one or several openings are punched. At standard laying (1.2 mm) there is only one opening; whereas in repair (1.4 mm) them there are two or three (depending on the releasing firm manufacturer). Track that the new laying installed on the block had the correct thickness. In case of lack of confidence do not hesitate to ask for the help experts service centers of the Citroyon company. 6. Check a condition of bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders, special attention having paid them to a carving part. Estimate degree of wear of bolts, make replacement of defective fixture. Wash out bolts in solvent, then carefully dry them. Measure length of each of bolts: measurement is performed from the lower surface of a head (the washer is removed) to an end face of a carving part. If length of all bolts makes less than 176.5 mm (l models 1.6 and 1.8) of/122 mm (model of 2.0 l), they can be used at assembly of the unit. If length at least of one of bolts exceeds admissible value, all bolts have to be replaced in a set. In view of enough high loadings to which these bolts are exposed in use the car, authors of the present manual recommend to make their replacement every time at assembly, regardless of a state. |

Installation
|
1. Carefully wipe the interfaced surfaces of a head and the block of cylinders. Make sure available on the regular places on both sides of the interfaced surface of the block of two guides of pins. On models 1.6 and 1.8 of l remove clamps of fastening of sleeves of cylinders (see the subsection "L Models 1.6 and 1.8", item 15). 2. Lay new laying on the interfaced surface of the block, having tracked that identification openings appeared from its left edge. |

1. Make sure that cranked and distributive shaft are blocked by cores of the corresponding diameter (see Fixing cranked/distributive in bulk for the purpose of prevention of service of the car, casual in the course of performing procedures). By means of the assistant accurately lay a head on the block of cylinders, correctly having put on it the directing pins. 2. Grease with high-quality refractory lubricant like Molykote G Rapid Plus a carving part and the lower surfaces of heads of fixing bolts. 3. Accurately bring fixing bolts to the openings (do not forget about washers) and by hand tighten them. Remember that under the left forward bolt also remote plug is installed. 4. In stages in the order shown on an accompanying illustration tighten bolts with effort of the first stage (see Specifications). |
5. Working as it should be, the return shown on an illustration, completely release all bolts, then again tighten them (again in the order shown on an illustration) with effort of the second stage (see Specifications). |
|
6. After all bolts are tightened with effort of the second stage, hold on them finally on a corner of thirds of a stage of tightening (see Specifications). In the absence of near at hand goniometer use the template made of a cardboard, or apply a measuring scale directly on a head surface around each of bolts. 7. Having finished the procedure of tightening of bolts, connect the electric socket to VV to the ignition coil. If the head dealt with the purpose of carrying out capital repairs, install the coil according to the instructions provided in the section System of Ignition - petrol models. 8. Throw with a gas-distributing belt a camshaft cogwheel. Fix a basic arm on an end face of a head of cylinders and strongly tighten fixing bolts. Establish an arm of the right support of the power unit, tighten fixing nuts with the required effort. Remove a jack from under the engine. 9. Make a tension of a gas-distributing belt (see a GRM drive Belt - the general information, removal and installation). 10. Further assembly is made as it should be, the return to a dismantle order taking into account the next moments: a) Track correctness of laying of an electrical wiring and reliability of fixing of its sockets; b) Track correctness of connection and reliability of fastening by collars of hoses of the cooling system; c) Track correctness of connection of all vacuum and ventilating hoses; d) Establish into place a cover of a head of cylinders (see Removal and installation of a cover of a head of cylinders); e) Connect a reception pipe of system of production of the fulfilled gases to a final collector, establish into place an air cleaner casing with air sleeves, make adjustment of a cable of gas (see the Power supply system - petrol models). If removed, install into place the inlet pipeline and a final collector (see in the same place); f) In conclusion, fill the cooling system (see. Weekly checks) also connect a negative wire to the battery. |
