12:14. System of anti-blocking of brakes (ABS) - the general information
ABS is included in a basic equipment of some models, on others can be established in addition.
The system provides the modulation of hydraulic pressure in brake contours preventing premature blocking of wheels of the car. Each of wheels of the car is equipped with the sensor of frequency of rotation by which signals the ABS control unit determines the moment of the beginning of blocking of the corresponding wheel. Hydraulic contours of each of brake mechanisms switched on special electromagnetic valves. The same valves are built in in assembly of the hydraulic ABS modulator. The electronic control unit (ECU) of system according to which teams the necessary adjustment of hydraulic pressure in supports of brake mechanisms allowing to avoid premature blocking of wheels and to achieve maximum efficiency of braking of the car is made is responsible for functioning of the modulator.
ECU ABS is equipped with the built-in block of self-diagnostics fixing any system failures and compatible to the special electronic scanner by means of which specialists of car repair shop make reading of information on refusals entered in memory of the block in system.
The design and the principle of functioning of anti-blocking system on the Citroyon Xantia cars differ in nothing from the usual ABS applied on all other vehicles.
