1.9. Identification of leaks
Formation of potek on a floor of a garage or a covering of the parking lot, as well as excessive moistening of the components located under a cowl confirm development of leaks which sources have to be immediately revealed, and the causes are removed. In certain cases identification of leaks appears rather complex challenge, in particular, when the power unit is strongly polluted. It must be kept in mind that often traces of leak of oil or other working liquids are carried from the source by the running air stream that has to be considered by all means in the course of check.

Do not forget that the most part of automobile oils and liquids are strongly toxic substances. Try not to allow hits of traces of leaks on open parts of the body. If the contact does not manage to be avoided, at once rinse the polluted sites of skin with a plentiful amount of water. |

Often the smell published by the following liquid appears a key in definition of a source of leak. Some liquids differ in characteristic color. For identification of sources of leaks leave the pure car for the night over the outspread leaf of a cardboard. |
Case pallet

Oil filter

... or through the place of a joint of an oil filter with the engine block. |
Gearbox oil

Leak of gearbox oil can happen through the epiploons serving for consolidation in differential of the internal ends of power shafts. |
Antifreeze

Leak of antifreeze is usually shown in the form of a crystal raid of white color. |
Brake fluid
|
Formation of potek from the inside of wheels is almost unambiguously connected with leak of brake fluid. |
Liquid of system of the power steering (PAS)
|
Leak of PAS liquid can happen through nipple connections of hydraulic lines on a case of a steering rack. |
