8.4. Removal, check of a state and installation of assembly of coupling

The dust produced in the course of wear of frictional overlays of a clutch plate may contain noxious to health asbestos. Do not blow off dust compressed air and do not inhale it at all. Do not wash out components of assembly of coupling by solvents on an oil basis, - for this purpose the special cleaner for components of brake mechanisms or methyl alcohol has to be used. The rags used after rubbing of components of coupling before utilization should be placed in a tight container.

In spite of the fact that some new frictional materials do not contain asbestos, during performing procedures of service of coupling it is necessary to make an assumption that asbestos in them nevertheless is available.

Coupling assembly fastening details

1 — the Bolt of fastening of a basket of coupling (one of six)
2 — the Directing pins (two of three)

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. If the power unit is not removed from the car and not dismembered (see the Head Remont of the engine), access to assembly of coupling can be provided by dismantle of the transmission (see. Manual box of gear shifting).
2. Before starting assembly dismantle, mark the landing provision of a basket of coupling on a flywheel. Use chalk or a marker.
3. Moving in a diagonal order, in stages (on a half-turn for approach) evenly weaken bolts of fastening of a basket to a flywheel so that the possibility of their reversing manually appeared (see a coupling assembly fastening Detail illustration).
4. Having hooked, remove a basket from the directing pins. Afterwards remove a frictional disk, having tried to remember its correct adjusting (see a coupling assembly fastening Detail illustration).

Check of a state

In view of labor input of procedures of removal and installation of assembly it is usually accepted to make replacement of a frictional disk, a basket and the release bearing in a set at once even if only one of components is worn-out. Strictly speaking, it is reasonable to replace coupling assembly in a preventive order every time at dismantle of the transmission and/or engine.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Having separated a frictional disk from a coupling basket, lay components on a workbench.
2. Before performance of cleaning of components study the prevention at the beginning of the present section. Working in well ventilated room, and it is better in the open air, carefully clear components, having wiped them with the pure rags moistened in a special cleaner for components of brake mechanisms or methyl alcohol.
3. Estimate degree of wear of frictional slips. Residual thickness of slips should not be less than 0.3 mm. Check overlays for existence of signs of mechanical damages or traces of oiling. In case of identification of cracks, traces of an overheat, deep scratches, oil spots or other defects the frictional disk is subject to replacement assembled.
4. If frictional slips have the working condition, estimate degree of wear of shlits of a nave of a disk, check a state and durability of landing of the torsion springs and rivets. In case of detection of defects the disk is subject to replacement.
5. At identification of traces of oiling of frictional slips, check a condition of the left epiploon of a bent shaft. Besides an epiploon, the case pallet joint with the engine block, or a main shaft of the transmission can be a source of leak of oil. Replace defective sealing components (see respectively Head Remont of the engine or Transmission) before starting installation of a new frictional disk.

6. Assessment of size of a beating of the conducted disk is made by means of the dial measuring instrument of plunger type on the lathe. The disk at the same time puts on on a shaft or a direct core of the corresponding diameter. The size of a beating of a disk should not exceed 0.4 mm. Otherwise assembly is subject to replacement.

7. Estimate the size of a side play of landing of the conducted disk on vents of a main shaft. The side play in the direction of rotation should not exceed 0.4 mm. Excess of the stipulated value unambiguously testifies to wear of a nave of a disk.
8. Check assembly of a basket for existence of signs of mechanical damages. Shake press a disk, checking durability of landing of rivets. Estimate a condition of basic rings, make sure of lack of traces of an overheat of strips of fastening of a press disk to a basket. In case of identification of damages, signs of wear or weakening of the effort developed by a diaphragm spring replace assembly of a basket.

9. Check a condition of the internal ends of petals of a diaphragm spring. The ends of petals have to be at one level within the admission of 0.5 mm. Slightly the deformed petals can be straightened by means of special adaptation in the form of a metal strip with a cut. If depth of wear of the ends of petals exceeds 0.3 mm, assembly of a basket is subject to replacement.

10. Check a condition of contact surfaces of a flywheel and a frictional disk - they have to be absolute, pure and free from cavities, deep scratches and zadir. Minor defects can be eliminated by processing of a surface with a fine-grained emery paper. In more serious cases replace a defective component. Estimate degree of not planeness of a working surface of a press disk. At excess by result of measurement of value in 0.3 mm assembly of a basket is also subject to replacement.

11. Check freedom of rotation of the release bearing. Estimate a condition of its surface. In case of detection of deep scratches, cavities, zadir and other damages replace assembly of the bearing. On models with coupling of exhaust type the bearing is replaced assembled with a basket.

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. At assembly make sure of serviceability of a condition of contact surfaces of a frictional disk and flywheel. From new components carefully remove traces of protective lubricant.

2. Develop a frictional disk the sprung party of a nave from a flywheel; on some disks the special marking allowing to define by what party to a flywheel it should be established is provided.

3. Establish assembly of a basket of coupling. At installation of an old basket track combination of the landing tags put in the course of dismantle (the basket is put on three directing pins). Screw fixing bolts and tighten them, so far only by hand that there was a possibility of correction of the provision of assembly.
4. Now it is necessary to center a frictional disk that at installation of the transmission of a vent of a pin of a main shaft got to the center of a nave of a disk.

5. For centering of the conducted disk pass the screw-driver or other suitable tool throughout an opening in an end face of a bent shaft. Now the frictional disk can be centered in relation to a shaft. It is alternatively possible to use the special tool that allows to reduce considerably the time expenditure connected with adjustment. The tool can be manufactured in house conditions of the suitable metal core or wooden whetstone which are densely sitting down in an opening in an end face of a bent shaft. In the place of threading of a core in a nave it is necessary to reel up an adhesive tape on it, having provided landing density in a stupichny opening.

6. Having finished centering of a frictional disk, tighten bolts of fastening of a basket with the required effort. Act in a diagonal order, you make tightening evenly, in stages.

7. Slightly grease vents of a nave of the conducted clutch plate and a main shaft of the transmission with lubricant on the basis of a molybdenum disulfide. Grease with the same lubricant a nest of the release bearing and a fork of switching off of coupling.
8. Establish into place assembly of the transmission (see. Manual box of gear shifting).
